Pride time! You’ve got the attitude. You’ve got the look. You’ve got the sunblock. Now all you need is a ride!
If you’re driving, parking is super easy. There are tens of thousands of parking spaces within just a few blocks of Tryon Street in Uptown. All of the closest parking garages and lots may have special event pricing in effect – usually $5 to $15 for the day – but sometimes just going one or two extra blocks further will yield cheaper or even free parking. On-street parking is free all weekend, and you can often find quite a bit on the north and east sides of Uptown. Check out www.charlottecentercity.org/transportation/parking for more info on parking.
For those with disabilities — Use the link above to scout out parking lots and garages closest to Tryon St. All garages have handicap-accessible parking spaces.
Light rail and bus
Want to take the light rail? It’s a great way to get in and out of Uptown – but this year there’s a catch. CATS is doing construction work to expand the capacity of the light rail, and they have to do that work on the weekends. As a result, the train is only running from New Bern station into Uptown. So if you’re in South End you can still hop on board, but if you’re further south you’ll have to catch the “LYNX Connector” bus that will take you to New Bern to board the train. That bus will pick up at all the stations and requires the usual fare. Please note that they can only take exact change on the buses & no credit cards. Two-wheels are welcome, too! There are numerous bike racks available up and down Tryon Street to lock to. You can also take advantage of Charlotte B-cycle stations located all around Uptown and near the festival and parade. We just ask that you not ride your bikes through the festival! charlotte.bcycle.com.
And, a special treat! Charlotte B-cycle will be checking in your bikes at their tent! That way, if you ride Uptown, you’ll have a safe place to store your bike! Visit the Charlotte NC Tours booth between 4th St. and Trade St. to check in your bike!
Taxis and more
Hire a ride? Uber, Lyft and Charlotte’s Taxi services are all great options to get in and out of Uptown. If you check out the Charlotte Pride Festival event page on Facebook, you can find some deals for Uber rides.
Finally, remember that you have to get home! While we want you to have a fun time at the festival, please be responsible. Pre-arrange for a designated driver, or plan on calling a car or catching the train home. Don’t ruin an incredible weekend by drinking and driving!
