Charlotte Pride: more than just a festival...
Charlotte Pride is the leader in LGBTQ visibility in Charlotte and the Carolinas. We present and collaborate on programs, projects, and activities, including the annual Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade, Charlotte Trans Pride, Charlotte Latin Pride, and Reel Out Charlotte, among others. Since its founding in 2000, Charlotte Pride has expanded its year-round programming and partnerships to better connect community members with its mission, vision, and values. Our year-round programs, projects and activities help us fulfill our mission to enrich, empower, strengthen and make visible the unique lives and experiences of LGBTQ people in Charlotte and the Carolinas.
Charlotte Pride Scholarship
The Charlotte Pride Scholarship aims to improve economic mobility for LGBTQ and Straight Ally college students from the Charlotte metro area by funding college scholarships. Recipients will be awarded up to $2,000 over four years to attend an accredited two or four-year college.
Reel Out Charlotte
Reel Out Charlotte is the Queen City's annual LGBTQ film festival. This program of Charlotte Pride uses the power of art and film to entertain, enlighten and build valuable bridges of understanding, support, and acceptance within and between the LGBTQ and ally communities in the Charlotte region. The film festival will celebrate its 10th annual event in 2018. In anticipation of the anniversary, a community vote helped pick the new name of the festival, rebranding from the GayCharlotte Film Festival to Reel Out Charlotte during the 2017 event.
Charlotte Latin Pride
Charlotte Latin Pride is a collaborative community project designed to build the engagement and capacity of the local Latino/a LGBTQ community and its allies. Activities include social events as well as educational and outreach initiatives in order highlight the diversity of the local Latin/a community.
Charlotte Trans Pride
Charlotte Trans Pride is Charlotte Pride’s transgender community outreach and collaborative project — funded in part by the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund. Charlotte Trans Pride seeks to provide expanded support for transgender members of the community, opportunities for social networking, awareness and education events, as well as community and leadership development initiatives to benefit current and up-and-coming transgender leaders. In 2015, Charlotte Pride provided $4,500 in matching funds to support this project.
A wide diversity of LGBTQ and ally people of faith join to celebrate Pride each year at Charlotte Pride's annual Interfaith Service, which helps to kick-off Charlotte Pride Week. In 2015, the Charlotte Pride Interfaith Service raised over $1,000 in funding for Time Out Youth Center. Additionally, faith congregations across the city regularly hold their own Pride-themed services and activities during Charlotte Pride Week and during the weekend of the Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade.
Arts & Culture
Charlotte Pride partners on several collaborative projects highlighting the artistic and cultural diversity of the LGBTQ community, including visual arts projects with local artist Edwin Gil and art showcases featuring talent from local LGBTQ choral groups, photographers, dancers and others. Additionally, Charlotte Pride works to include a diversity of local talent in the line-up for each year's festival entertainment. Over the past two years, Charlotte Pride has committed over $10,000 in funding and in-kind services to support local LGBTQ arts and cultural initiatives.
Charlotte Pride provides funding each year to present the annual Charlotte Pride Youth Dance, in collaboration with Time Out Youth Center. The event kicks off Charlotte Pride Week and provides a safe, alcohol- and drug-free social environment for youth under the age of 21. Future collaborative Youth Pride programs are being planned.
