Charlotte Pride announces NERP-POSE Conference cancellation, preparation for other community events

The following notice is up-to-date as of March 12, 2020, 9:40 PM ET.

Dear NERP-POSE Conference attendees, sponsors, and participants, Charlotte Pride volunteers and community members:

The Charlotte Pride Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel the 2020 NERP-POSE Conference, originally scheduled for March 19-22, 2020, in Charlotte. We have made this decision out of an abundance of caution after consultation with our staff and InterPride leadership, in consideration of conference attendees’ concerns and the latest updates as the continuing COVID-19 pandemic unfolds.

While we are disappointed that our conference cannot go forward as scheduled, our top priority has always been ensuring the health and safety of all participants in our events and programs.

Charlotte Pride staff members have already begun the process of reaching out to all stakeholders. Refunds for conference guests’ registration costs will be processed over the next few days; conference guests should see their refund credited to their bank account or card used for the purchase within 5-7 business days, depending on their banks. Those who paid by check or other means can expect to see their refund processed within the next two weeks.

Conference guests who booked rooms at either of our official host hotels will be able to cancel their rooms without any charges. Additionally, those who booked at the Charlotte Marriott City Center should receive automatic cancellation notices from the hotel by end of day Friday, March 13, 2020; guests are encouraged to doublecheck and confirm that their cancellations have been processed.

With the conference’s cancellation, Charlotte Pride is also canceling a related community event, the Welcome to Charlotte! InterPride Reception, originally scheduled for March 20, 2020, 7-9pm, at Heist Brewery in NoDa.

No other immediate community events were currently scheduled for Charlotte Pride.

Charlotte Pride’s board and staff have begun preparation and contingency planning for all upcoming community events in the spring and summer. The Reel Out Charlotte Film Festival (May 9-17, 2020) and the Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade (August 1-2, 2020) are not currently affected by these updates and are moving ahead as scheduled.

Charlotte Pride will continue to closely monitor all updates, guidelines, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and all other federal, state, and local authorities.

Charlotte Pride would like to extend a special thank you to Casswood a Fournier Group brokerage, one of our NERP-POSE Conference sponsors. The firm has committed their previously agreed-upon sponsorship dollars to help us cover conference expenses which were already incurred and cannot be recouped.
