Charlotte Pride 365: Get involved all year long!

If there’s one thing COVID and 2020 has taught us, it’s that our Pride can never really be cancelled or silenced. In fact, our involvement and commitment to the community are important now more than ever!

Many people think Charlotte Pride only produces each year’s festival and parade, but over the years, our organization has significantly grown year-round programs, community events, and involvement opportunities.

Here are just a few ways you can get involved now, through the end of the year, and into 2021:

Become a team coordinator or team member

Applications are open now for team coordinator and team member positions. Charlotte Pride’s valiant volunteer leaders make up several teams which pull together to envision, plan, and execute the annual festival and parade, as well as various programs like Charlotte Latinx Pride, Charlotte Trans Pride, and Charlotte Women’s Pride events, in addition to Reel Out Charlotte, the Queen City’s Annual LGBTQ Film Festival.

Whatever your particular talent, skill, or passion, there is a place for you in the Charlotte Pride team! We’re looking for awesome, innovative, imaginative team players who love the thrill of working and growing together with others to make a difference in our local community.

Oral history project: Story-tellers and collectors wanted!

This fall, we’ll be making a final push to complete the Charlotte Pride Oral History Project, an effort to collect and document the stories of LGBTQ community elders, with a specific focus on past Charlotte-area Pride leaders and organizers.

For those with stories to share: If you are or were previously involved with LGBTQ Pride organizing in the greater Charlotte metro area and would like to share your story, please click here to fill out this form and select “I have a story to share.”

For those who want to help collect stories: If you’d like to help collect and document stories, please click here to fill out this form and select “I want to help collect stories.” This is a perfect opportunity for current high school or college students studying or with an interest in history, LGBTQ community history, sociology, and other fields! We’d be more than happy to also coordinate with your school for any sort of volunteer, independent study, internship, or other credit or recognition!

Calling all writers, poets, and artists! Submit your creation to the Charlotte Pride Magazine!

This year’s Charlotte Pride programs and events have looked quite different. That’s true of every community organization! One of our annual activities is producing and publishing a magazine. We used to call it the “Pride Guide,” but now, it’s just simply the Charlotte Pride Magazine. And, unlike past years when it has been published in tandem with the annual festival and parade, this year we’ll be publishing it later this fall!

That opens up so much time and space for your awesome contributions. We’re seeking submissions from poets, writers, artists, and more. If you have something to share, we’d love to consider it for publication!

Perhaps you’ve written a short fictional story with LGBTQ characters. Or maybe you have a personal essay about your life and experiences. Maybe you’re a poet and have awesome poetry to share, or a visual artist with an awesome painting or sketch.

Whatever it is, we’d love to feature it!

Interested? Awesome! Submitting interest in contributing to the Charlotte Pride Magazine is as easy as a simple email! Head to your inbox and email with a little information about yourself and your submission and we’ll be in touch! Be sure to include “Charlotte Pride Magazine Submission” in the subject line so we don’t miss it!
