Charlotte Pride celebrates historic increase in local corporate support for LGBTQ community

Presenting sponsors Bank of America, PNC Bank, The Scorpio, Time Warner Cable and Wells Fargo present annual Pride events Aug. 24-25 in Uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The organizers of Charlotte Pride ( are celebrating an historic increase in the level of corporate support for their annual lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) Pride festival and their inaugural Bank of America Charlotte Pride Parade.

A total of five corporate partners have stepped up as presenting sponsors for this year’s Charlotte Pride, including Bank of America, PNC Bank, The Scorpio, Time Warner Cable and Wells Fargo.

“There was no way we could have imagined the generous outpouring of corporate and community support our 2013 event would have when we began our planning process this year,” said Charlotte Pride Co-Director Richard Grimstad.

The Charlotte Pride Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, Noon-10 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 25, Noon-6 p.m., at the PNC Bank Festival Zone on S. Tryon St. between 3rd and Stonewall Sts.

Grammy Award-winning artist Mýa, Judith Hill of this season’s “The Voice” and New Orleans’ Big Freedia, Queen of Bounce, will perform on the festival’s Wells Fargo Stage. Presenting sponsor The Scorpio, founded in 1968 as one of the state’s oldest LGBT nightlife establishments, will present three stars from the popular “RuPaul’s Drag Race” reality TV show on Logo: Alyssa Edwards, CoCo Montrese and Detox Icunt. On Sunday, Aug. 25, 1 p.m., Charlotte Pride will hold its inaugural Bank of America Charlotte Pride Parade on Tryon St. The event is the first of its kind since 1994, when the statewide NC Pride visited the Queen City.

Time Warner Cable will present the Charlotte Pride VIP Experience, with exclusive access to a special VIP lounge, premium Bank of America Charlotte Pride Parade viewing areas and other perks. VIP passes cost $100, support Charlotte Pride’s work and can be purchased online at
