Charlotte Pride comes to Uptown, Aug. 24-25, featuring Mayor Patsy Kinsey, national entertainers and first Pride parade in the QC in 19 years

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Pride, the Queen City’s annual lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Pride celebration, will be held in Uptown Charlotte on Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25. Organizers are excited to announce that their event this year will include the Bank of America Charlotte Pride Parade, the first Pride parade to march in Charlotte in 19 years.
Thousands of LGBT community members and their allies will flock to Uptown for the Charlotte Pride Festival at the PNC Bank Festival Zone, on S. Tryon St. between 3rd and Stonewall Sts., Saturday, Aug. 24, Noon-10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 25, Noon-6 p.m. The festival’s Wells Fargo Stage will host Grammy Award-winning artist Mýa, The Voice’s Judith Hill and New Orleans “Bounce” artist Big Freedia. Other artists include national drag artists Alyssa Edwards, Detox Icunt and CoCo Montrese, contestants from Logo’s hit TV show, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” presented by The Scorpio.
The Bank of America Charlotte Pride Parade will be held on Sunday, Aug. 25, 1 p.m. on Tryon St. The parade is the first since the statewide NC Pride Fest and Parade visited Charlotte in 1994. Featured participants in the parade include Charlotte Mayor Patsy Kinsey and City Councilmembers LaWana Mayfield and Billy Maddalon, as well as Parade Grand Marshals Wesley Mancini and Bishop Tonyia M. Rawls. Also participating are the inaugural Charlotte Pride Champions of Pride Awards recipients: Janice Covington, Beverly & Bill McIntyre and Juan Carlos Ramos. The parade is comprised of more than 70 entries, floats and vehicles including small businesses, churches, national sponsors, marching bands and community groups representing LGBT youth, straight allies, college students and others. The parade’s emcee stand will be located at Trade and Tryon Sts., featuring emcee Roxy C. Moorecox and other emcees from media sponsors WBTV and Kiss 95.1.
