Charlotte Pride announces 2014 planning for growing festival and parade
Launches special end-of-year giving campaign to jump start 2014 planning
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Organizers of Charlotte Pride, the Queen City’s annual lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) and straight ally Pride festival and parade, are happy to announce that they have begun planning in earnest for its event next year, to be held in Uptown Charlotte, Aug. 16-17, 2014.
Charlotte Pride is also launching a special end-of-year giving campaign to kick-start its fundraising efforts for the 2014 festival and parade. Organizers want to expand the size and footprint of the festival and add additional vendors, entertainment and attractions — goals based on the feedback organizers received in its extensive community survey this fall. While organizers look toward 2014, they are also celebrating a successful event in 2013. This year, the organization re-established itself as an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization after several years of partnership with another community group. Additionally, Charlotte Pride held the first Pride parade in Charlotte in nearly 20 years, creating a new annual tradition for Charlotte’s LGBTQ and straight ally community. The result was explosive growth in impact and attendance, with the event attracting at least 80,000 people to Uptown over two days in August.
Planning for Charlotte Pride 2014 is already underway. The group is inviting any person interested in a volunteer or planning committee role to learn more about involvement at charlottepride.org/volunteers/.
