Your chance to shine: Charlotte Pride invites community artists and performers to open auditions

Have you ever wanted to perform on the main stage or other areas at the Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade? Did you ever want to get your talents on stage at other Charlotte Pride events throughout the year?

Well, here’s your chance!

For the first time, Charlotte Pride is giving community members the opportunity to take center stage! On May 23, we’ll host open auditions for main stage entertainment at the Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade, as well as other entertainment and performance opportunities with the organization throughout the year. (Click here to visit the Facebook event page or scroll to the bottom of this post for details, rules and regulations.)

The open, public auditions are open to all kinds of entertainers, from drag performers, dance troupes and jugglers to singer-songwriters, poets, spoken word artists, comedians and more. Have a unique talent? Show on up! Yes, that includes you, too, fire-breathers and burlesque performers! (There’s just one sad exception; we aren’t auditioning for DJs at this time. We’ve also got some special notes for bands; see the full list of rules and regulations at the end of this post.)

Charlotte Pride is excited to offer this new opportunity to community members. In the past, Charlotte Pride chose main stage entertainment from a pool of applications garnered via our website through an open application and entertainment bidding process or through other third-party bid submission sites that required fees for each entry/submission. This year, though, the Charlotte Pride Entertainment Committee wanted to give each and every individual star in the fabulous Queen City the chance to shine. We find this new process far more open and inclusive, because it no longer requires fees or an application process. Auditions are open to each and every individual in the community, creating an equal playing field for those just starting out or trying to make a name for themselves to seasoned performers who are already well-known in the community.

The audition event is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend, offer their applause and praise for their favorite act and maybe even help convince Entertainment Committee members of the merits of their favorite star.

While the headlining acts for each year’s festival and parade provide plenty of fun, a Pride really can’t be a Pride without the people who make our community special and unique. At Charlotte Pride, we strive to fulfill our mission — celebrating and empowering the Queen City’s LGBTQ community — each and every day. These open auditions are a new tradition and one more way we extend our mission into what we do — opening opportunities for all community members, including our artists and performers, to feel celebrated, empowered, affirmed and visible.

We hope to see you on May 23 and, depending on demand, at any future audition events we might hold. Come prepared to shine bright with your special, unique personality, style, talent and skill!
