Pride 101: Frequently asked questions and answers to better plan your trip to Charlotte Pride’s festival and parade

As we head into August each year, Charlotte Pride organizers get many of the same questions and inquiries from our fans, visitors, community members and others. You might even catch yourself wondering about time, location, transportation, parking and more. Check out some of our most frequently asked questions — and their answers — below.

When is Charlotte Pride?
Charlotte Pride Week is August 7-16, 2015, with events and activities sponsored by LGBTQ businesses and community organizations in Charlotte. The Charlotte Pride Festival is on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, 2015. The Charlotte Pride Parade is on Sunday, August 16, 2015, 1-3 p.m.

Where will the festival be held?
The festival will be held along S. Tryon St., between Trade and Stonewall Sts. in Uptown. Click here to learn more about the festival.

The parade will be held on N. Tryon St., between Ninth and Trade Sts. Click here to learn more about the parade.

What are festival hours?
Saturday, Aug. 15, Noon-10 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 16, Noon-6 p.m.

How much does it cost to attend?
Nothing! Yes, it’s a free event! No tickets or admission needed!

Is the event accessible?
Yes. The event is held on public property; most of the space is accessible for those with disabilities (sidewalks and other areas include ramps). Most of our festival and stage areas will also be accessible. ASL interpreters will be provided on the main stage and at the parade judges/emcee stand.

Are pets allowed?
Pets are discouraged at the Festival site because of our location in Uptown, a lack of grassy areas and the expected crowds. Thank you for your understanding.

Where are the restrooms? Is there a festival map?
Yes, there is a festival map. You can find it on our festival page, in our annual Charlotte Pride Guide or on the large informational towers placed throughout the festival area. Restrooms are located on S. Tryon St. near the stage, on W. Trade St. and on E. MLK Blvd., E. 3rd St. and E. 4th St.

How can I volunteer at the festival and parade?
You can click here to learn more and sign up online in advance, or you can visit with our volunteer coordinators the day of the event. The volunteer area will be located at S. Tryon St. and MLK Blvd. We’re always in the need for extra helping hands! The online sign-up form lists a variety of volunteer roles and time slots.

How much is beer, wine and water? Where and how do I purchase beverage tickets?
This year’s pricing for beverages is: $5 Bud/Bud Light and wine; $6 for premium beers; $2 water. Please note: You must be 21 or older to purchase and consume alcohol. Legal photo ID required at time of beverage ticket purchase and at time of service. Tickets for beverages may be bought at information tents. Beverages cannot be purchased — only retrieved — at beverage stations. Alcohol sales and service end at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, and at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. No refunds will be issued for purchased beverage tickets. Outside alcoholic beverages may not be brought into the festival or parade area; alcoholic beverages purchased inside the festival area may not be taken past the exits. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed along the parade route. We kindly appreciate your cooperation. Please enjoy responsibly.
