Week-long slate of events culminate with annual Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade

Official activities include education, social and outreach events for LGBTQ youth, transgender, Latino/a community


Charlotte Pride, which will produce the annual Charlotte Pride Festival & Bank of America Charlotte Pride Parade Aug. 15-16, will herald in its annual event with a more than week-long slate of community events and activities, including special education, social and outreach events for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) youth, the transgender community and the local Latino community.

“Charlotte Pride Week” begins Friday, Aug. 7 with a special Charlotte Pride Youth Dance, co-sponsored by Time Out Youth, Charlotte Pride, Charlotte Black Gay Pride and Campus Pride. The event is open to LGBTQ youth ages 13-20, hosted 7-10 p.m. at Midwood International & Cultural Center, 1817 Central Ave.

Charlotte Pride will also present its Transgender Community Social and Keynote on Monday, Aug. 10, 6-10 p.m., at Levine Museum of the New South, 200 E. Seventh St. The first-of-its-kind local event will feature an evening mix-and-mingle with remarks by special guests Kristin Beck, a transgender activist, former Navy SEAL and current congressional candidate, as well as openly transgender U.S. Army Sgt. On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the organization will host its first-ever Latin@ Pride Night, a free evening social event for members of the local LGBTQ and ally Latino/a community. The event will feature free food, refreshments and music, hosted 6:30-9 p.m. at the Charlotte Pride offices, 1900 The Plaza.
