Over the past few years, the Interfaith Service has grown exponentially, both in the number of clergy members participating and in the number of people attending the service. We look forward to that growth will continuing in 2016.
This service is a time for the LGBTQIA community and our allies to experience support and love from these open and affirming faith organizations. And it is a great way to kick off Charlotte Pride Week!
During the 2015 Charlotte Pride Interfaith Service, clergy members from over 25 different faith organizations expressed how “Love Leads the Way” by weaving different colored ribbons into a tapestry. Each ribbon color represented a different characteristic of love: blue for commitment, green for endurance, red for non-judgmental, purple for honoring the other, aquamarine for faithfulness, yellow for hope, orange for zest and joyful discovery.
In the middle of the tapestry is a multi-colored, patterned ribbon that represents our differences, but it is interwoven with and supported by all of the other ribbons, showing that we are all stronger together. This tapestry was carried in the Pride parade in front of all of the faith organizations that participated.
Please join us on Sunday, August 14th, at 4:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Tryon St., Charlotte. Refreshments will be provided following the service.
