Charlotte Trans Pride’s “Trans-forming History”
Tuesday, July 28, 6-7:30pm
Our understanding of history as we know it has removed the stories transgender heroes within the LGBTQ+ community from recognition. As a result, the focus of this event has been inspired by the #sayhername and #sayhisname movement to honor the trans individuals in history whose names have not been acknowledged by the larger LGBTQ+ movement due to racism and transphobia.
Charlotte Women’s Pride’s “Lesbian Leaders: Women-Loving-Women Who Have Been Erased From History”
Wednesday, July 29, 6-7:30pm
Misogyny has caused the erasure of so many lesbians, trans women, and women-loving-women in history and, instead, replaced their voices, roles within the movement, and stories with more privileged members of the community. We constantly see the historical disappearance of the stories of women both within and outside of the LGBTQ+ community. This event is to learn more about women like Stormé DeLarverie, Alexis Danzig, and others who were integral parts of the fight for LGBTQ+ liberation.
Charlotte Latinx Pride’s “Queer Liberation is Not Exclusive to the U.S.”
Thursday, July 30, 6-7:30pm
Our history of Pride and Queer and Trans liberation as a whole is often presented as this US-centric narrative that either demonizes or ignores the fight for liberation in other countries. As a result, the focus of this event is to honor the voices of Latinx individuals who have fought for liberation within Latinx countries and provide a more global understanding of what the global movement for LGBTQ+ individuals looks like.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this year’s event virtual instead of in-person?
Due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, we have canceled all in-person Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade events, including associated events like the Interfaith Service. instead, we are hosting virtual and live-streamed events in their place.
When are these virtual events planned?
We will host a variety of virtual events July 24-August 2, including an eight-hour festival livestream on Saturday, Aug. 1 and the virtual pardon Sunday, Aug. 2. Details for other events, like the Interfaith Service and those for Charlotte Latinx Pride, Charlotte Trans Pride, and Charlotte Women’s Pride, will be announced very soon!
Are these events free to attend/watch?
YES! We will not charge fees or admission to attend/watch our virtual and live-streamed events. Community organizations or businesses hosting their own events during Charlotte Pride Week may charge admission or other fees.
How can I volunteer for the festival and parade?
We don’t have the need for an organized volunteer effort this year, since we have moved to virtual and live-streamed events. However, there may be opportunities to lend a hand from time to time. Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities by watching our social media or signing up for our email list.
How can I apply to march in the parade or set up a vendor booth in the festival zone?
We’re hosting a virtual parade this year. Click here for information on how to submit a video to be included. We have transitioned our vendor opportunities into a citywide scavenger hunt. Click here to learn more about becoming a scavenger hunt Pride Site.
When do you think you will host in-person events again?
We are hopeful that we’ll be able to return to hosting in-person events again this fall. We have rescheduled Reel Out Charlotte, the Queen City’s Annual LGBTQ Film Festival to Oct. 24-Nov. 1. We also have tentatively scheduled the 2021 Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade for Aug. 21-22, 2021.
Why is Charlotte’s Pride event held in August, instead of June?
Understandable question! We get it all the time. Like many other Pride organizations across the country and world, Charlotte’s events are not held in June for a variety of reasons. Click here to read or listen to this awesome story from our local NPR station on the reasons why we hold our event in August!
