Charlotte Thrives: Queer Storytelling Event
Free Range Brewing
2320 N Davidson St
Charlotte, NC 28205
Stories help us understand others and ourselves. Come support local queer storytellers during Charlotte’s Pride Month at Free Range Brewery on Wednesday, August 16th!
DOORS OPEN AT 7:00 PM
SHOW STARTS AT 7:30 PM !
Why is it important for queer spaces to exist in Charlotte?
Queer spaces are essential – they provide a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals that identify as queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other non-heteronormative identities.
Acceptance and Belonging: Queer spaces offer a sense of acceptance, belonging, and understanding. LGBTQ+ individuals face discrimination, prejudice, and social stigma. Having a safe space allows for them to connect with others who share similar experiences and identities, reducing feelings of isolation and providing a sense of community.
Emotional Support: These spaces can serve as a refuge where LGBTQ+ individuals can freely express their thoughts, emotions, and concerns without fear of judgment or prejudice. They can seek emotional support, share personal experiences, and find solidarity within the community. The support is crucial, especially for those who many not have accepting family or friends.
Safety and Security: Unfortunately, LGBTQ+ individuals are at a higher risk of experiencing harassment, discrimination, or violence in various social settings. Safe spaces offer physical and emotional safety, where individuals can be themselves without fear of harm or prejudice. Creating an environment free from homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination helps protect individuals and promote their well-being.
Advocacy and Activism: Queer safe spaces often serve as hubs for advocacy and activism. They can be platforms for organizing events, demonstrations, and campaigns that promote LGBTQ+ rights and equality. By providing a space where people can come together and work towards positive change, these spaces contribute to advancing queer rights and challenging societal norms.
Celebrating Diversity: Queer safe spaces celebrate and embrace diversity within the LGBTQ+ community. They recognize the intersectionality of identities and foster an environment that respects and values different experiences, backgrounds, and expressions of queerness. This celebration of diversity helps combat internalized homophobia and fosters self-acceptance.
It’s important to note that while the need for queer safe spaces is significant, the goal is to create a society where all spaces are safe and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. However, until that ideal is fully realized, safe spaces continue to be important for providing support, empowerment, and community for queer individuals.

HIT THE WALL
Arts Factory at West End Studios
1545 West Trade St
Charlotte, NC 28216
Queen City Concerts is proud to present HIT THE WALL during Charlotte PRIDE!
It’s the summer of ’69, and the death of music icon Judy Garland has emboldened her gay followers. A routine police raid on an underground Greenwich Village hotspot erupts into a full-scale riot, the impetus of the modern gay rights movement. That’s the well-known, oft-rehearsed myth of Stonewall, anyhow. Smash that myth against the vivid theatrical imagination of playwright Ike Holter, add a howling live rock ‘n’ roll band, and you get HIT THE WALL. Remixing this historic confrontation reveals ten unlikely revolutionaries, caught in the turmoil and fighting to claim “I was there.”
QC Concerts is an LGBTQ+ owned, Charlotte, NC based theatre company committed to presenting concert-style productions of plays and musicals. With a focus on preserving the work, QC Concerts seeks to push the envelope on live theatre, expanding the audience’s appreciation for art by exploring the text and lyrics that make theatre challenge your beliefs, expand your viewpoint, and listen with your heart.
HIT THE WALL will be presented at Free Will Craft + Vine on Saturday and Sunday, August 19-20, 2023 at 7:30pm.

QUEER FOLKS AND ALLIES ARE WELCOME!
***It’s important to note that while the need for queer safe spaces is significant, the goal is to create a society where all spaces are safe and inclusive for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. However, until that ideal is fully realized, safe spaces continue to be important for providing support, empowerment, and community for queer individuals.
